Hi all,
I would like to share infos and impressions about CA SL75 in order to get quicker to an optimal setup.
I tested the board with TR-6 7,6 and 8,4, Talon 44, 46 and carbon Canefire 46. At first I set the mast foot at mid track or in the back half; the board was extremely easy to sail, but saturated early and lacked top end speed. I was not able to get over 26,0 knots (same top speed in 3 different sessions, both with 7,6 and 8,4, and with any of the 3 fins), even in broad reaches in strong gusts (20 - 23 knots).
The last time I sailed it, I decided to try and move the mast foot to the front; with this setup, 8,4 and the Canefire, strangely the board proved faster, livelier and quicker to accellerate. I easily reached 27,5 knots in very light winds, about 15 - 16 knots gusts, and barely bearing off a bit. Don't mind the number, it's a very slow speed justified by the light wind and the relatively short gusts, but the important think is that the board this time felt eager to accellerate and seemingly didn't reach its limit.
This in my view is very strange: usually boards need to put the mast foot as back as possible in order to 'free' up, and the limit to this is in control problems. The '11 SL75 instead seems to me to work in the opposite way. The good thing is that by setting the mast foot in the front half of the track one gains big advantages also in ease of use, control, early planing and comfort in jibes.
I am curious to know about some other experiences with the CA 75 and 80.

Hello !
I tested yesterday the CA80 2011 with 8,6 and Sting 48.
I started with the mastrack right in the middle, boom high. That was very good already but with a lot of "wetted" surface so I put the mastrack rearward (until my NP mastbase closes the rail) and the board was a lot faster, more free and still very easy to sail, no tailwalk, still good pressure on the frontfoot.
Next time I take my GPS to confirm that. I was alone on the water, difficult to say something but the sensations were fantastics, I'm sure it's very fast in fact I'm sure I never been so fast (maybe not Vmax but average speed and reaching) in 8,6 on any boards. The control is just fantastic, my only problem are the jibes it feels like a truck in comparison with my CA70 !
Nevertheless I only tried very few boards over 70cm : AB+80, Isonic122, Isonic 144 ...

Hi Ste,
thanks for the answer. I am still not properly set with my SL75. Maybe it is because of the fin, probably I should consider something more powerful than both the Talon and Canefire, like the Sting is.

Had another session yesterday, on the SL66 actually, and it' starting to get clearer. With a 7.6 on the '10 SL66, I would have used a 38 or 40 Talon; this time I tested a 42 Talon (didn't go for the 38 Tomcat as water was rougher than usual, and the Tomcat doesn't like that) and things worked really nice, even when overpowered. Tested against my usual sailing buddy The new board really likes bigger fins than the '10 one; set that way, it shows great speed, accelleration and control. Probably it's the same for the bigger ones (75, 80) as the bottom design is the same as far as I know.

Ok that is logical ... !
If you can try the sting, it is a fantastic combination with the CA !

I found a 66 to complete my quiver and I plan to use it with 7,0+38 sting and 8,6+42 sting
By the way I look forward to next week for more testings on the 80 !

Hi there,

Hi Vince,
is your SL66 '10 or '11?
Seems to understand the Sting V1 is particularly fit for the '11 CA's. Not surprisingly.
Had some more sessions on my '11 SL66. Compared to my previous '10 one, it seems to ask about 2 cms. more fin, plus it goes really very well with an overpowered 7.0 and 38 Talon 9.0.

Another session yesterday with SL66 and 7.0, Talon 38. Wind shifting from useless to overpowering. The more I get used to the board, the more I like it. It's more technical and asking than the '10 model, but once one rides it the way it asks (totally committed, standing on the tail with stretched out arms and front leg, flying the fin) performances are really blistering and control is unbelievable.
