Hallo Vincent,any news about 7,6 - 8,2 - 9 ?
Sailed my first slalom comp last weekend in wild wild wind and decided that North/Warp power is too much for me when pushing hard between marks. That's why I'd like to go Gaastra for small size too (already got 12 and 11 2008).
Is it true that 6,x are the best and that bigger are not so fast?
Any comment??
Thank you

Ciao Giu,

The 8.2 was terrific in the 2007 range. The best lightwind sail I've ever sailed so far.

As I understood from racers report, the 08' model is even more stable in strong winds. At your size, you can do 6.7 - 8.2, no problem or 6.7 - 7.6 - 9.0.

What board do you use ?

I will rig 6.0 and 7.6 and will post some pictures next week.

Hallo Vincent!
Thought you didn't want answer! Thank you.
Just coming back from the box where I've rigged up my brand new Vapor 12. Hoped for taken some pics but camera's battery was empty.Sorry , next time...
I've rigged up it with my North Platinum 550 (still waiting a new Gold 550 and the 11). Setted up with full 2 cm + in mast extension (even if Ross said me to use 3/4 cm more than signed) the sail appeared nearly flat downlow and soooooo opened in the leach (till second batten upward the boom). Can't imagine how it would have been with Ross suggested specs. Of course it means nothing because of everything will be clear once in the water but the wind seems doesn't cooperate so far.
If I've right understood I should consider the written specs as very light air use and add some more cm downhaul when wind increase.Do you agree with that? Or is it more correct downhaul all the time similar and play a bit just with outhaul?
The sail appears much more light in the hands compared to my '07 warp 11,9.Still a "static" feeling!
Very curious to see the difference with Gaastra mast (if there's any).

When it comes to slalom sizes I'll surely go for 6,7 (it will be so different from my warp 6,8...).Upward is a bit betting because a 7,6 would be great for my isonic 111 but, maybe, too close for the 8,2 . Plus I think that it's very fast in PWA races (where they start just in 12 kt) but less usefull in marginal wind. Probably a 9 would be better. Any chance to listen something about that? Of course I'm talking about a combination with a big slalom board board!

Thank you

122 + 8.2 + SL4 42 or 44 will be probably the fastest combination for light wind.

9.0 work too for sure on the 122 too with 44.

If you stay with SB, you can go down to the 101 with 7.6 and 6.7. Fin 38.

You should give a try to new gaastra masts as they really improve the performance.

last weekend while competing first slalom in a while I've seen lot of people going on new 133/9,0 in more than 18 kt! I was in borrowed new 122/7,8/42 but no chance to keep going with them. That's why I wanted go bigger than 122.

Gaastra's changed mast factory. Now Italica. They produce for many brands (North too). That's why thinked (and hoped) that my north would have fitted right new wapors.

same factory but bend curve quite different as the North curve is stiffer on the bottom and softer on the top.

not agree with you Vincent,it's the opposite! North is soft in top a stiff in bottom but not like Pryde. Take a look here:

these masts are older North curves. Newer (bjorn...) are closer from pryde. new gaastra are close from MS ones.

The good thing with latest gaastra sails is the ability to accept different curves.

La 6.0 est exceptionnelle !

Grosse nouveauté cette année, une grosse marge de réglage à l'amure. Tout marche et tout le temps !

Rigged up my brand new 6,7.
Compared to my '07 warp 6,8 it looks so small !!
Nice shape and good looking. No chance to test it so far.
Waiting for other sizes...
Hey Vincent, new feedback about 7,6 ?

YES !

I had a terrific day with the 7.6 and the CA62. Deboichet SL4 38.

Following Cedric Bordes' advice, I pull the downhaul over the rec setting by 1 cm.

The sail is flatter and very responsive. So stable that I could move back the mast foot by 3 cm !

Wind was very strong at the begining, 20-30 knots with stronger gusts. friends wer fine with 5.0-5.8. Flat water.

I was fine with this new setting. Total control and good speed. The draft is locked. The best illustration for all this are harness lines attachments close to each other. 2cm betwwen each !

Then, the wind dropped down to 12-20 knots. I was expecting to have to change my settings. And NO! No need to change anything ! Amazing. Everything is just the same ! Even the outhaul !

The wind range of the 08' model is huge ! Light, responsive and powerfull !

A great sail !

I can't wait to go back on the water tomorrow to try again the 6.7 and perhaps the 6.0 with same kind of setting

WOW !
My starting set up for 6,7 has been mast estension 6 cm+ (for better set the tack strap) and DH just 3 cm pulled (it should have been 463 totally).
Can't wait to get other and go sailing it!

Once the sail is broken (after one sailing session), you can put 45 mm as extension for the 6.7. It flies !
